Yaniv in SH 2010
Yaniv re-visited Shanghai this April for Passover, and spent about 10 days here with me. I had fun with some of my new lenses and we also discovered some really cool, Chinese places.
Shanghai March
March wasn't a very exciting photography month in Shanghai. However, I took some photos of construction, Jon's new cat, and some black-and-white photos in Red Town.
Hong Kong
My second time to HK was on a business trip for 4 days, with only one free day. Unfortunately, most of my free time was raining so I ended up not going to the beaches or the Peak.
The Big Island
Hawaii's Big Island is beautiful and the largest of all the islands, with the world largest volcano. Black sand beaches are great, and Kona coffee and macadamia nuts are fantastic!
Oahu
From the Marriott at Waikiki to the JW Marriott Ihilani across the island, I experienced all parts of Oahu. Save for Hanauma Bay, Oahu is not as beautiful as Hawaii, but was relaxing.
Flying 2010
Some photos from the Shanghai Pudong Airport and the Osaka Airport. Also some photos from the plane on some flight in Asia. All taken in early 2010.
Harbin
Harbin is the northernmost large city in China, situated between Russia and N. Korea. There is a heavy Russian influence, apparent everywhere. It's an extremely enjoyable place.
Harbin's Old City
The old city of Harbin has very rural Chinese feel. However, one street in the old city resembles more a street from an eastern European city, such as one in Poland, that you would see in movies.
Sun Island
Sun Island, in Harbin, not only has hundreds of intricate snow sculptures, but also a Russian village. It has a great European feel! The best way to get there is by crossing the river on foot.
Siberian Tiger Park
At the Siberian Tiger Park in Harbin, in addition to the tiger pits, there were leopards, lions, cheetas, a panther, white tiger, and a LIGER! Napoleon Dynamite's dream has come true.
Ice Sculpture World
As one of the four largest ice sculpture exhibits in the world, Harbin's Ice Sculpture World is a must-see. However. its not for the feint of heart, with temperatures dipping below -40.
Harbin Judaica
100 years ago there was a large Jewish population in Harbin. Left are two synagogues and a Jewish middle school. Such a rare sight to see in China. Unfortunately, none are in use today.
Moganshan Walk
About a year since my first visit, I returned to Moganshan Lu, known for its art galleries. These are from my trip to Moganshan Lu, including photos taken on the way and afterwards.
35mm f/1.4
I completed my first New Year's Resolution--to buy the 35mm f/1.4 lens--on January 1st. These are my best photos taken with this lens from January. The bokeh effect is great!
My New Canon
I finally bought the Canon 5D Mark II with the 24-105mm f/4 lens. These are my December photos taken by this camera and lens. I tried to capture Shanghai life.
Shanghai Sept-Nov
My photos in Shanghai from my last 3 months of using my beloved 30D to take photos. I am starting to take photos of events, and it was great going back to 1933 after almost a year.
San Francisco 舊金山
My second favorite city in the U.S. after NYC, San Francisco is always a pleasure to visit for its charm, food, and hills. Also, it was my first time visiting SF with an SLR camera.
New York '09
In September I went back home to see my parents, and went into New York City twice to visit some old friends and eat great food all day and all night. Always good to be back to civilization.
Wuhan 武汉
Wuhan is a actually 3 cities combined into one for a population of 10 million. It is also the hottest city in China, the hottest of the "Three Furnaces". It was a pivotal location in China's history.
Shanghai June-August
Even though June through August are the hottest months in Shanghai, I enjoyed most of it and managed to celebrate my birthday without breaking much of a sweat.
Jinan 济南
My first visit to Shandong province was to Jinan, both the capital of Shandong and my girlfriend's hometown. There are lots of natural springs, buddhas and mountains.
Shanghai Apr-May
As the weather improved, I started going outside more. I went to the top of the SWFC, Dave C visited, I went to some new areas of Shanghai, and of course I ate well.
Pudong Animals
I went to both the Wild Animal Museum and the Shanghai Aquarium in early May, in Pudong. My favorite is the smallest primate in the world, which resembles a person.

My cousin Yaniv from Israel, currently in Singapore, decided to return the favor and visit me in Shanghai. Besides going up the LuPu Bridge, his favorite place was probably Babyface.
Xitang 西塘
Yaniv and I visited Xitang, a water town famous for its scenes in Mission:Impossible 3. It was a bit larger than expected, but a quaint way to spend his final full day in China.

Yiwu 义乌
I visited a friend in Yiwu, a large commodities market town. Among other monikers, it's considered to be the sock capital of the world. To my delight, there was a lot of Middle Eastern food!
Singapore 新加坡
I went to Singapore to stay with my cousin Yaniv for 6 days, partly due to visa issues. Apart from the humid weather, it's a wonderful place to visit, and a great place to live.
Light Painting
Painting with Light is a really fun photography technique, involving a tripod and flashlight. It take a little bit of time to set up and take good pictures, but is totally worth the effort!
Back in NYC, II
Having just returned to NYC, I hadn't given much time in thinking out where to go and what to eat, so I just kind of played it by ear, saw some friends, and ate some good food.
Vermont
Bennington, Vermont is close to my house, so my parents and I often make it for a great hamburger. Also, it has the Bennington Monument, which is taller than the Washington Monument.
Niagara Falls 尼加拉瓜瀑布
Driving from Toronto to Albany, dad and I stopped on the Canadian side of Niagara Falls, despite the frigid weather, so I could take waterfall pictures for the first time in my life!
Myhoa in Shanghai
On Myhoa's way to Xiamen, where she currently resides, she stopped in Shanghai for 3 days. Her favorite parts were the old Chinese streets, and favorite food was Xinjiang.
Shanghai Dec-Jan
In December '08 and January '09, some highlights were exploring new areas of Shanghai with Eric, including the old Jewish ghetto and the old cow slaughterhouse, 1933.
Back in NYC 纽约
You know what I like more than being back in NYC? Nothing! The vibe, the people, and most importantly, the food. Too bad it was only for 4 days. So great being back.
