Jeremy's Photos
Light Painting
Painting with Light is a really fun photography technique, involving a tripod and flashlight. It take a little bit of time to set up and take good pictures, but is totally worth the effort!
Amsterdam
Amsterdam was the first city my parents were in together (having met on a train) and where I celebrated my 18th birthday. Moreover, it's a great walking city!
Paris HDRs
Paris is a beautiful city. The historic structures, paired with water reflections and clouds, really make for some of the best HDRs I've ever taken.
Paris
Not having seen Adam since January, I decided to take the flight to Paris to see him. It was a great 8-day trip with lots of beautiful sites and wonderful food! I love Paris.
Seoul HDRs
Seoul was a quite good HDR-city. Not only were the colors vibrant, but it is the first time I tried HDRs of more than 3 pictures (actually, 16 to be exact!).
Seoul 首爾
For October Break, I went to Seoul to see Inpyo and Maru. Not only is it a photogenic city, but the food is amazing. It resembles Tokyo in a way but is a bit more down to earth.
Ashraf at the Wall
On our second and final day in Beijing, Ashraf his friend and I went to Mutianyu and Huanghua. Huanghua was spectacular as expected, with the water and shadows, among others.
Ashraf in China
Ashraf came to visit me in Shanghai for a bit over a week. We also went to Beijing for a couple of days to see the sites. It was a great trip, and hopefully the pictures reveal that.
Shanghai Summer '08
This summer, I moved into my first apartment ever! The tallest building in the world (WFC) was completed. I went to a place a bit far away called She Shan, a resort area with a hotel.
Wuzhen
Wuzhen, one of the largest water towns on the outskirts of Shanghai, is famous for its scenes in Mission Impossible 3. It was nice, but too crowded with tourists. i prefer Zhouzhuang.
Hong Kong-Macau
The last leg of my trip with my parents was Hong Kong. I thought it was an interesting mix of an urban city with dense high-rises and many relaxing beaches. A really liveable city.
Zhouzhuang-Hangzhou
When my parents were in Shanghai, we decided to take a day trip to a water town nearby called Zhouzhuang (12th Century), then an overnight trip to the nearby city of Hangzhou.
Shanghai with Parents
My parents visited me in Shanghai for about a week in May. The view from our hotel was magnificent, and I had not seen Shanghai like that before. I had a great time showing them around.
New Beijing
I quantify "New" Beijing as the Olympic venue, our hotel, the CCTV building, some Chinglish and good food (i.e. Fauchon), and Beijing's new airport Terminal 3, the largest building in the world.
Old Beijing
From May 1-6, my parents and I explored China's capital, Beijing. The pictures are of the old sites, such as Tian'anmen Square, The Forbidden City, The Summer Palace, and The Temple of Heaven.
The Great Wall 長城
We first went to Huang Hua, and not many people know about it because it is so remote. Unfortunately, due to thunderstorms, we returned to another section, Mutianyu, the next day.
Shanghai '08
This will be a frequently updated photo album of some experiences I've had in Shanghai in 2008. Included will be friends, architecture, birthday parties, venues, and last but of course not least, food!
Nanjing 南京
Nanjing is quite a "small" city by Chinese standards with only 7 million people. It rained for most of my time there, but I was able to squeeze in Sun Yat-Sen's tomb, a lake, and also Nanjing 1912.
Xi'an 西安
Xi'an is famous for their terracotta warriors. In addition, I saw the city wall, both the Big and Small Goose Pagodas, and a Muslim area with AMAZING street food. I also climbed Huashan, a famous mountain.
Ningbo 寧波
Since I had some free time in February, and I had promised my good friend Stephanie that I would visit, I decided to visit Ningbo for a couple of nights. It is a "small" Chinese city of 6 million people.
2008 Parties
These are pictures taken at the following events: Red Beat's Opening, Sexy Carnival at Mao, Bacardi-hosted event at Muse through Jaded Productions, and Kamen's birthday party at Red Beat.
Northern Vietnam
Hanoi was alright. However, Ha Long Bay, or "Bay of Descending Dragons", has over 2,000 formations coming out of the water, and is one of the most magnificent places to which I've ever been.
Central Vietnam
Technically part of Southern Vietnam, although I like to classify it as Central Vietnam, I visited Hoi An, known for its fabric market, and Hue, with a famous citadel. I went on a long motorbike ride, too.
Southern Vietnam
My Vietnam experience began in Chao Duc, a small town along Cambodia. After one night there, we headed to Ho Chi Minh City, or Saigon, which is the largest city in Vietnam with about 8 million people.
Phnom Penh
Phnom Penh is the capital of Cambodia. We went to one of the Khmer Rouge prisons and then went to the Killing Fields, where 20,000 people were slaughtered. Elephants are part of the traffic in this city.
Siem Reap HDRs
Siem Reap is home to many ancient temples, including one of the Wonders of the World, Angkor Wat, or "Angkor Temple". With all of the vivid colors, I felt obliged to take many HDRs. And that I did.
Siem Reap
Siem Reap was our first stop in Cambodia. We saw about 10 temples in total, including Angkor Wat and Bayon. My favorite two were Ta Prohm, which looked like it was from LOTR, and Preah Khan.
Thailand to Cambodia
Traveling from Bangkok to Siem Reap was a very long, and quite bumpy, journey. Some stops were made at the border and some other places in Cambodia to buy some drinks. The banana-dog was great.
Bangkok
Bangkok was the meeting place for my tour group. Therefore, I sadly only had one night there. It has a lot of great, and also strange, food. I will definitely return to Bangkok to explore more of the city some day.
Aaron in Shanghai
After our trip to Tokyo finished, Aaron visited me for a week in Shanghai. As you can tell from the pictures, the trip was definitely food-oriented. However, that was definitely expected.
Tokyo 東京
I visited Tokyo from Dec 29 to Jan 4 to spend 6 days with Adam and Aaron, the first time all 3 of us were together since Adam's birthday in early June. I'm glad we could spend this time together in Tokyo.
Adam in Shanghai
Adam visited Shanghai from December 16-20 before meeting up in Tokyo. I showed him all the main sites and we ate very well. It was nice to spend time with him after 6 months being apart.
Shanghai by Canon
Yes everyone, I finally bought a real camera--a Canon EOS 30D with 28-135 mm f/3.5-5.6 lens. It is really nice, and these are some pictures I took in the first couple of days with the camera. Enjoy!
Red Town 紅坊
Red Town could quite possibly be Shanghai's best kept secret. Only a 5-minute walk from my dorm on Huaihai Lu, it has a park filled with sculptures, and it is the most serene place I have been to in Shanghai.
Eating in Shanghai 吃飯
My food experiences have varied in Shanghai. They range from Western-styled food (especially McD's) to small cafes to traditional Chinese/Shanghainese food that never burns a hole in your pocket.
Friends in Shanghai 朋友
So, by this point I've met a fair number of people, both inside and outside of my program. You can find more pictures of them in other albums, but here are some other pictures of good times.
Birthday Parties 生日會
Four of my friends from Dorm 9 had birthdays in a 4-week time span. William turned 20; Kelvin, 26; Dave C., 24; and Dave M., 30. Lots of pie wound up on their faces, especially at Dave C.'s party.
Hangzhou 杭州
Hangzhou is a city situated about Xi Hu (West Lake). When Marco Polo visited Hangzhou, not only was it the largest city in the world at the time, but in his opinion it was also the grandest city in the world.
Halloween 万聖節
Halloween isn't the same in China as in New York. No parade, no trick-or-treating. It's just some costume parties at bars, but it's still a good time. Unfortunately, the costumes aren't so great.
Zhouzhuang 周莊
Also coined "The Venice of the East", Zhouzhuang, unlike Suzhou, lives up to the expectation. Unlike the large Suzhou populous, Zhouzhuang is a small water town, actually the oldest in China, only 50 km from Shanghai.
